Volleyball Cruises pair of non-conference wins, jumps to 8-1

BRONX, New York State – Needing a big rebound after a tough New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) loss a few days ago, the University of New Jersey City women’s volleyball team did just that, dominating their way to a pair of straight set wins at a tri-match, hosted by Lehman College on Saturday, September 25. The Gothic Knights first knocked down host Lightning 3-0 (25-12, 25-7, 25-5), then beat Maritime College in straight sets (25-20, 20-17, 20-17) also.

Things started off on a very positive note for the Gothic Knights (8-1) as they easily passed through Lehman (0-3) in the morning. The latter equaled her career record with a record of 10 recoveries with four aces and four assists.

Setter in second year Sydney Lore (Marlton, NJ / Cherokee) also finished with a nice line, leading all players with 21 assists with eight digs, five assists and a record of five aces. junior right wing hitter Paola Toledo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic / Colegio Catolico San Rafael) had 11 error-free swings to finish with seven kills (.636) to go with three digs. Rookie on the outside hitter Dayshia Espinosa (El Paso, Texas / Pebble Hills) also finished with five kills and five digs. Junior defensive specialist Katrina Nguyendon (Union, NJ / Union) recorded four digs and four aces.
