the The Super Eagles took off from Abuja airport on Wednesday evening and landed safe and sound at Garoua just before midnight. Only three players – Tyronne Ebuehi, Jamilu Collins and Odion Ighalo – were missing.

They were taken on an Air Peace charter flight directly to Garoua, a town on the outskirts of Cameroon and about 950 km from the capital, Yaoundé.

There has been speculation that Ighalo could be replaced in the squad after being retained by his Saudi club Al Shabab. Ebuehi will join his teammates as soon as he finishes playing for Venezia on Thursday in Serie A as the reason for Collins’ continued absence is unclear.

In addition, the team numbers for the Nations Cup 2021 have been revealed. Joe Aribo retains the famous No. 10 jersey; Ighalo received the No.9 jersey while Maduka Okoye, the expected first-choice goalkeeper, received the No.1 jersey.

The Eagles will begin their quest for a fourth title on January 11 against the seven-time champions of Africa, the Pharaohs of Egypt, before fights against Sudan and Guinea Bissau on January 15 and 19 respectively.
