Minnesota Wild Announces Installation of New Meyer Audio System

SAINT PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League (NHL) announced today that the organization has installed a new Meyer Sound system at the Xcel Energy Center. Built around PANTHER large-scale linear speakers, the new system will be used for the first time on Tuesday, November 1 when the Wild host the Montreal Canadiens at 7 p.m. The Wild is the first professional sports team to equip its home. arena with PANTHER line arrays, and the Xcel Energy Center system is the largest permanent PANTHER installation in the world to date.

“We are extremely pleased to become the first professional sports team to equip their venue with Meyer Sound’s new PANTHER system,” said Minnesota Wild President Matt Majka. “The Xcel Energy Center system features the latest technology in the industry and is the largest permanent PANTHER installation in the world. tonight.”

The new Meyer Sound system includes 96 PANTHER loudspeakers, 22 1100-LFC low frequency control elements (subwoofers) for the main audience coverage system, complemented by 14 Meyer Sound LEOPARD line array loudspeakers used to direct the sound on the ice surface for the players. The new Meyer Sound system will be used for Wild games and all other non-concert events at the Xcel Energy Center; it will not be used for concerts as the technical requirements differ for each production and most artists travel with their own sound systems on tour.

The new Meyer Sound system will dramatically improve the fan experience when playing Wild games. It distributes sound evenly throughout the Xcel Energy Center, with greater speech intelligibility as well as improved bass response for sound effects, incidental music and video soundtracks. The system can be segmented to activate networks only for specific areas of the arena for partial occupancy events, and the new amplifiers use much less electricity. Additionally, as part of Wild’s ongoing sustainability efforts, the original Xcel Energy Center audio system will be recycled or reused.

Introduced only earlier this year, Meyer Sound PANTHER systems have already toured with Ed Sheeran, Michael Bublé and Dead & Company, and powered the sound of major summer music festivals from Switzerland to San Francisco. As with all Meyer Sound loudspeakers, PANTHER is a self-powered system with amplifiers and digital processing built into the loudspeaker enclosure.

“Meyer Sound loudspeaker systems have been used in sports venues for many years, and we are thrilled to see PANTHER at the Xcel Energy Center,” said John Monitto, director of business development for Meyer Sound. “The systems are designed to deliver highly intelligible audio so fans can clearly hear announcers and officials’ calls, even during high points of the game with peak crowd noise. These systems also deliver high-impact music for generate excitement from the fans.”

Introduced in early 2022, the PANTHER The linear line array loudspeaker is designed to meet the rapidly changing demands of large-scale touring and installed systems. Today’s complex and visual production scenarios, coupled with more stringent safety regulations, often limit the space and weight allowed for loudspeakers. Additionally, new AV systems are increasingly based on a networked signal infrastructure. Meeting these requirements, PANTHER delivers an acoustic output of over 150 dB SPL while weighing only 150 pounds. and consumes significantly less power than previous generations of line array speakers. A dual input module with analog network and Milan AVB inputs allows integration with new digital signal networks but with backwards compatibility for integration into existing analog infrastructure.
