Sergio Aguero has been honored by Manchester City on the 10th anniversary of one of the most crucial goals in Premier League history.
Known colloquially as the “93:20” goal in reference to when it was scored, Aguero’s adrenaline-filled strike against Queens Park Rangers in 2012, City won their first-ever Premier League title, narrowly edging rivals Manchester United to the trophy on goal difference in the process.
It proved to be a watershed moment in English football, with City subsequently winning four more titles since that fateful day. United, for the record, won none.
Aguero left City at the end of the 2020-21 season and left as the club’s top scorer with 260 goals in 390 games. He signed for Barcelona on a free transfer but soon after was forced into early retirement at the age of 33 after suffering from a heart condition.
In tribute to the Argentine striker’s career and his significant contribution to City’s cause, the club have erected a statue of him in the lobby outside their Etihad Stadium.

Created using thousands of pieces of galvanized steel, the glittering statue appeared at dawn on Friday morning and depicted Aguero twirling his shirt around his head after scoring his most famous goal.
Located outside the East Stand and lit by sky blue floodlights at night, it stands side by side with the statues of two other big names in the modern city, namely Vincent Kompany and David Silva, who also saw their career immortalized with similar steel works of art.
Aguero himself even dropped by the stadium to give the statue his stamp of approval and looked suitably impressed during the guided tour.
“Really, it’s a very beautiful thing for me, seeing me 10 years ago is very moving”, says the striker. “During these 10 years, I was able to win many trophies and I was able to help the club become one of the most important in the world. I am very grateful to the club for having made this statue in recognition of my football career in Manchester. . It’s something very special.”

To further commemorate the ‘93.20’ target anniversary, City have released a limited edition replica pre-match shirt which comes with the iconic timestamp printed on the back.
Unsurprisingly, the club have since confirmed that the entire series of shirts sold out within 12 hours of launch.
The limited edition 93:20 pre-match shirt, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the 2011/12 title win, goes on sale at 8am on Friday 13 May! 👕🤩

Sure, statues and shirts are fine, but we’ve seen ardent City supporters go to even greater lengths to show their appreciation for Aguero and in particular his scoring goal against QPR.
Perhaps the best example is the fan who had a transcript of Martin Tyler’s entire match commentary on the move that led to the 93:20 goal tattooed on his forearm in 2015.

The text begins with the buildup, culminates with Tyler’s famous howl “Aguerooo!!!” as the ball touched the back of the net and even included the pertinent information that the striker’s late, late strike knocked United from top spot with the very last kick of the season.
Amazing stuff, even after all these years.
