For the second consecutive season, FC Tucson’s women’s team will be sponsored by the city’s only full-service, women-owned architectural firm.

Dean Alan Architects was announced as the club’s shirt sponsor on Tuesday. The company’s logo will be on the team’s kit next week, when the club open their Women’s Premier Soccer League Desert Conference title with a match at the El Paso Surf. Dean Alan signed on as a sponsor last season, and the FC Tucson Women went 7-0-1 on their way to a conference title.

The women’s team are unbeaten in their last 12 matches dating back to June 2019; the 2020 season was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, and last season went without a playoff.

The relationship between the football team and the architectural firm began last May, when Dean Alan founder Angela Gee sat next to FC Tucson assistant coach and head coach of the Vito Higgins Academy on a flight from Seattle to Tucson.

Gee, a football fan, was eager to learn more about the club. Higgins quickly put Gee in touch with FC Tucson President Amanda Powers; Powers heard of Gee’s business and liked that it was owned by a woman.

“Angela Gee and her company have made an incredible impact in Tucson and their commitment to excellence is a perfect match for FC Tucson,” Powers said in a press release. “As a native of Tucson, Angela cares deeply about our community and we owe our success to the contributions of people like her.”

Athletic Brewing returns as sponsor of FC Tucson’s women’s sleeves, while the CARF International logo will appear on the back of the shirts. More than any other team sport, football depends on shirt sponsorships. USL League One men’s team FC Tucson announced earlier this spring that Quik Mart would be their title sponsor.

FC Tucson’s women’s team plays in the WPSL, a league it describes as “pre-professional”. The roster is made up of youth, college and adult players. Tucson native Kelly Pierce coaches the club. This year’s schedule features eight regular season games spread over less than two months. The FC Tucson women will play their first home game on June 3.
