LAS VEGAS (AP) — I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to put on the USA jersey every day.

It’s been a long road back after thinking my career was over after having spine surgery in January 2020.

I thought my life was going to change drastically and I would never be able to play again. Yet here I am 2 years later, hoping to earn a spot on the United States World Cup roster.

Looking back on my time in my hospital bed to now be back at the top of the competition, I am so grateful to be playing basketball at this level again. I can’t really discredit God at this point, I’m just very honored to be here.

It’s a dream as a basketball player to play for the United States. They’re the one team everyone wants to play for at some point and everyone knows they’re one of the hardest to form. Having the opportunity right now is a dream come true.

It’s not my first time playing for the United States, I won a gold medal at the World University Games when I was in college. It was probably the longest flight I have ever taken, well until now when we are leaving for Sydney.

One thing you can always count on with USA Basketball is that they take you anywhere in the world. The next step could be outer space.

This is my first time in the Outback. I think I can’t wait to find out more about the place. Experiencing the continent and trying to get myself back on track. Since the end of the Phoenix Mercury season, I have raced and ripped through multiple states.

We had a good week of training in Las Vegas. It’s a very good group and everyone carries the same energy and intensity when it comes to winning. The practices are really competitive and there are a lot of new faces which is good. There are also a lot of young people.

I spent time with Rhyne Howard. She and I are very similar in many ways. It was great to stretch her brain a bit and enjoy the whole experience with her. At some point, we’re going to have to have a conversation about SEC basketball.

As a group, we are still looking to build our team chemistry, but everyone has bought into the process and what the team will look like. We eat all our meals together and lift together. We also had some good recovery workouts in the pool.

And now we will have the chance to bond for 15 hours on the flight to Australia. See you soon.
