Bundesliga record-breaking champions Bayern Munich have launched a new version of their Oktoberfest shirt, to mark the return of the city’s famous beer festival in 2022.
It won’t just be in the Bundesliga clash between Augsburg and Bayern that Bavarian pride will be in the spotlight this Saturday. On September 17, Oktoberfest finally returns for the first time since 2019, after the cancellation of the last two editions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Over the next two weeks, thousands of revelers will descend on the Theresienwiese to soak up the unique atmosphere of the world’s largest folk festival and, of course, sample local beer by the liter in traditional dishes. Wiesn-Maß mugs.
Bayern are always VIP guests for the event, with players such as Thomas Müller, Joshua Kimmich and Serge Gnabry attending with their partners three years ago. This time around, the reigning German champions could swap the usual Bavarian Lederhosen for their new adidas-designed Oktoberfest jersey, which was launched “to celebrate Bavarian tradition and lifestyle with the fans”.
If Bayern can get the party started with a derby win over Augsburg at the WWK Arena on Saturday afternoon, their supporters might even offer to take the tour…
