Another postponed UCLA women’s basketball game, Utah facing COVID-19 protocols

The Bruins will have to wait even longer to return to the action in the game after another of their opponents withdraws due to health and safety protocols.

The UCLA women’s basketball (5-3) has postponed its Jan. 7 game against Utah (8-3) due to COVID-19 issues in the Utes’ schedule. The Bruins haven’t played in a competitive environment since their trip to New Jersey to face UConn on December 11.

Almost a month without UCLA playing in conference or non-conference games, coach Cori Close could consider scheduling a game in the next few days to keep legs fresh before the Bruins head to Boulder for their next game against Colorado, much like men’s basketball coach Mick Cronin said he was coping with his team after their last cancellation against Arizona State.

With the trip to Utah postponed, the Bruins will now have a seventh consecutive game called off. The Bruins have been facing issues with COVID-19 since games were called off against Texas Southern, Cal State Bakersfield and Ohio State.

Last week, UCLA had to postpone games against Arizona and Arizona State due to lingering COVID-19 issues on the team.

The Bruins are back in training for their next games, but COVID-19 issues in other programs such as Utah may delay the schedule even further. As it stands, UCLA will go 28 days without playing a game.

Unlike the previous three non-conference clashes that will not be played, UCLA’s conference games with USC, Arizona State, Arizona and now Utah will likely all be played at a later date, the competitions Trojans vs. Bruins are already rescheduled for January. 20.

The immunization status of each list has not been disclosed by UCLA Athletics, but as employees of the State of California, both coaching teams must be vaccinated. UCLA has demanded that all students who came to campus for the fall be vaccinated or submit a waiver, and the school is requiring booster shots for returning students for in-person classes in January. .

The University of Utah requires all students to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and also offers the option of requesting medical, religious or personal exemption. Unlike UCLA, Utah does not require students to receive a COVID-19 booster.

The next UCLA game on its schedule is currently scheduled in Colorado on Sunday at 10 a.m.
