WESTFIELD, NJ – Kids and adults alike can join in or watch the very first ‘Tour De Westfield’ bike parade one week starting Sunday, and there will also be music, contests and a small tricycle parade for kids. younger. The link to register is below.
This very first community cycling event for residents will take place on September 26 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Activities include a three mile family bike parade led by the Westfield Police Department, a WPD Bike Safety Rodeo, the ‘Tots Tour’ activity for young children on tricycles and a Safe Bike Check hosted by Jay’s Cycle Center.
The festivities begin at 10:00 am at the North Side Train Station Lot with music from DJ Alan Keith Entertainment.
However, the actual police-led parade will begin at North Side Station around 11 a.m. The city encourages participants to plan to arrive before 10:30 a.m. to queue. All children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
“If you can’t join the parade, be sure to cheer on the participants along the cycle path!” said the city. “The best place for a spectacular show will be on East Broad, Elm or Quimby streets.”
The parade will end at the station.
Tower of Tots
Younger Westfield riders can sign up for the Tour de Tots, where participants will ride a track while learning to turn and stop while taking on fun obstacles.
The city says: “For those who don’t yet ride a bike but want to participate in the fun, this is the activity for you!” Bring your tricycle or scooter (no bikes), or use the one provided. There will be a limited number of slots for this event – be sure to register participating children for a 15 minute time slot. Parents must accompany their child and cannot leave any child unattended.
Entrants can also compete for a chance to win a $ 100 gift certificate to a Westfield business by decorating bikes in the Bling Your Bike contest. Or, compete to win $ 150 for an ice cream or pizza night at a local restaurant by entering the Bike Parade using a team name – the largest team to register and participate wins.
Complete the day by visiting the Westfield town center shops and restaurants. A bike corral will be staffed so that participants can store their bikes and enjoy the city center.

This event is part of Westfield’s very first Green Energy Week and is brought to you by the Commission and Recreation Department, in conjunction with the Westfield Police Department, Green Team, Cycling Advisory Board , the BRAKES coalition and the Downtown Westfield Corporation.
